Frequently asked questions
We have pulled together answers to the questions we hear most often. If you cannot find what you are looking for, give us a call, and we will be happy to help.
How much will I get for my scrap car?
Scrap car prices are based on the current market rate for scrap metal and the weight of the vehicle. They change regularly in line with global metal prices. We check rates daily and always aim to offer the best price available in the Kent and Sussex area.
To get an accurate quote, call us with your vehicle registration number and postcode. We can usually give you a price within minutes.
Do I need a V5C logbook to scrap my car?
You do not legally need a V5C logbook to scrap your car, but it does help. If you do not have one, let us know before booking, we will advise you on the best way to proceed. In some cases, we may ask for alternative proof of ownership.
How does the DVLA find out the car has been scrapped?
When your vehicle is processed at a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, the ATF notifies the DVLA electronically and a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is issued. This formally removes the vehicle from the DVLA database. You should also notify the DVLA yourself using the V5C logbook and claim back any remaining road tax.
What is a Certificate of Destruction?
A Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is a legal document issued by an Authorised Treatment Facility once a vehicle has been permanently scrapped. It proves that the car has been disposed of in compliance with the End of Life Vehicles Regulations and that you are no longer the registered keeper. You should receive a copy within a few days of collection.
Can you collect a car that does not run?
Yes, we collect non-runners all the time. When you book your collection, let us know if the vehicle cannot be driven so we can arrange the appropriate collection equipment. There is no extra charge for non-running vehicles.
Can you collect from a garage or test centre?
Yes. If your car has failed its MOT or broken down at a garage, we can collect directly from the premises. We just need the address and your confirmation that you are the registered keeper.
How quickly can you collect?
We aim to be with you within a few working days of your booking. In many cases, we can arrange next-day or same-day collection depending on availability and your location. Call us to discuss timings.
Do you accept cars without a current MOT?
Yes. The MOT status of a vehicle has no bearing on whether we will collect it. We buy cars in all conditions, including those with no current MOT, those declared SORN, and those that have not been driven in years.
Will I be charged for collection?
No. We collect free of charge across our entire Kent and Sussex service area. There are no collection fees, administration charges, or deductions on the day.
Can you collect more than one vehicle at once?
Yes. We are happy to collect multiple vehicles in a single visit, this is particularly useful for garage clearances, estate clearances, and business disposals. Please mention the number of vehicles when you get in touch so we can arrange appropriate transport.
How is payment made?
In line with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, we make payment by bank transfer. Payment is processed on the day of collection and typically arrives in your account within 24 hours. We do not pay cash.
